Luis Tiant, Red Sox All-Star known as ‘El Tiante,’ dead at 83
As reported by the Boston Globe, Luis Tiant, the legendary Cuban pitcher known as "El Tiante," who led the Red Sox to a 1975 World Series appearance, passed away.
He was eighty-three.
It was not revealed what caused the death.
Three-time All-Star Tiant was best known for his unconventional delivery, which involved turning his back entirely to home plate. He played two seasons for the Yankees before finishing his career as a star for the Red Sox from 1971 to 1978.
Over the course of 19 MLB seasons, the cigar-smoking right-hander amassed 229 career victories, a 3.30 ERA, and 2,416 strikeouts
